Self-Care for Professionals Working with Trauma 102
April 27 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
Day 2: “Deepening: Understanding How to Use Your Emotional and Somatic Responses”
This second workshop day in the series on self-care of the Trauma Responder/Practitioner will focus on how participants can begin to use their increased mindfulness to empower themselves and their clients. Participants will have the opportunity to develop their curiosity to more deeply access and utilize their emotional and somatic responses. Participants will learn and practice mindfulness skills that can be incorporated into their life as a method of preventing burnout and vicarious traumatization. Together, participants and presenters will examine the intersection of ethical self-care with the realities of institutional and cultural policies and influence. We will discuss the ways in which the stages of professional development and life transitions play a role in the way participants experience their work. Using experiential exercises and case vignettes, participants can explore the spectrum of options beyond the limitations of “either/or” thinking. The format of this session will promote increased awareness of how Responder/Provider participants from different work settings address self-care.
